The UMKC Conservatory of Music offers a variety of experiences and opportunities in both educational and real-life environments. The surrounding community is steeped in jazz history (Walter Page's Blue Devils, Benny Moten, Count Basie, Charlie Parker, etc.) and continues to have a strong jazz presence as evidenced by the historic 18th & Vine Jazz District and performance and nightly jam session opportunities. The Marr Sound Archive, located on campus as part of the Miller-Nichols Library, contains over 200,000 jazz recordings on vinyl alone. |
