Made his first marks on tenor, particularly as a member of Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers and later with the great mid-late 60s Miles Davis Quintet. Wayne was a co-founder of the trailblazing fusion band Weather Report, during which time he also became an extraordinary soprano player. He is one of the most widely interpreted composers, and many of his compositions have become jazz standards.
